Are you Sitting Comfortably?
Learn how to be more comfortable while sitting...remember how many hours you spend in front of the computer!! Actually, we were never meant to sit on chair, let alone for hours on end and in front of a computer screen! But in a world where it’s inevitable, this workshop will help you to prevent and diffuse back and neck pain by learning several new and different movements you can do in your chair. You will also learn to make changes in your posture while at your workstation, in the car or just sitting and relaxing. You will feel more comfortable with a set of tools you can use for years to come. We will use Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons, Bones for Life® processes and some Change Your Age™ movements to find the best possible ways to sit and feel better.
Saturday, July 10th2 - 5pm:
Relieve Your Stress
Perhaps you are feeling like life is just a little too stressful right now; maybe you are having trouble concentrating or coping with a plate that is too full; maybe your stress is being manifested through back and neck pain or poor posture; maybe it’s hard to get a full night’s sleep without waking up at ungodly hours… When we feel overwhelmed, under the gun, or unsure how to meet the demands placed on us, we experience stress. In small doses, stress can be a good thing. It can give you the push you need, motivating you to do your best and to stay focused and alert. Stress is what keeps you on your toes during a presentation at work or drives you to study for your midterm when you'd rather be watching TV. But when the going gets too tough and life's demands exceed your ability to cope, stress becomes a threat to both your physical and emotional well-being. I am offering an afternoon of Feldenkrais® and Bones for Life® processes to help you become more aware of where and how stress is not useful to you and how you can have a more harmonious relationship with your mind and body. You will learn movements that will reconnect you with yourself to feel more relaxed, positive and in charge of your life. You will learn ways of coping with stress by increasing your self-awareness, breathing more easily and moving more smoothly. Please join me for a special Stress Relieving afternoon which includes gentle lessons taught in a pleasant environment, delicious refreshments and a take home booklet with further ideas for dealing with stress.

Improve Your Posture and Walking
Are you concerned about your posture? Perhaps you try to “stand or sit up straight”, but as soon as you are not thinking about it, you slump again. Most people think of posture in terms of alignment -- proper posture means sitting or standing up straight, with your chest out and your shoulders back. We were taught to achieve this posture through effort and work. Proper posture, defined this way, is difficult to maintain. Some people manage to do it with tension and effort; others just give up and resign themselves to a life of "bad posture."
Good posture should grow organically out of our innate sense of ourselves as we move through and function in the world. A relaxed, aware body will align itself easily and naturally in gravity, so that body mass balances lightly on the skeleton with a minimum of muscular effort.
A good natural balance produces a skeletal alignment (posture) that may seem similar to that prescribed by proper posture as described above, but that is maintained in a very different way. Proper posture is produced by continuous effort; natural balance can be relaxed and effortless.
Do you feel you could walk more elegantly and smoothly? Would you like to feel taller and walk with more grace and mobility - they way you were meant to? In this workshop we will explore the dynamics of walking and posture through Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons, a talk about posture, a short video and refreshment break.
Sunday, September12th 2-5pm
Relieve your Back and Live again!
Would you like to have a healthier, stronger and more powerful back? Would you like to get rid of that nagging pain in your back? Do you feel like you could use your back better? Would you like to learn how to make your back more intelligent? Through gentle yet mentally challenging movements you will learn how you limit your power and overwork your joints, shoulders and neck when you do not use your back well. By going slower, reducing unnecessary effort and listening to yourself, you will learn to use more of your back and become aware of how you can engage your entire back in everyday functions, as well as how to improve your performance in running, yoga, Pilates and other sports. You will learn how to alleviate back pain if you already have it. Most people experience back pain during their lifetime - it is rare to find people who do not have lower back, neck and shoulder pain at some point in their lives.
Pain, however, can serve an important function. It informs us that we are in the process of injuring ourselves or have already been injured. We need to listen to our pain: in doing so we can find ways to rid ourselves of pain and create opportunities to learn new and better ways to move, think and organize ourselves. Many of us simply expect to have pain as we grow older. It does not need to be that way!!! We will do some Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons as well as some Change Your age movements, show some hands-on work, have a discussion and watch a DVD of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais.
The Feldenkrais Method® is a way to increase your awareness and understanding of yourself by using non-habitual movement as a tool to access the brain. With gentle movements, many of which are based on the movements that babies make when they are learning to roll over, crawl and sit, you can restore proper and smooth functioning to your back, knees, shoulders, etc. Your increased understanding and awareness of yourself will lead to: • Moving with greater ease and efficiency • Relief of chronic pain • Increasing your range of movement without painful stretching • Improvement in your posture and coordination, whether you are sitting, standing or walking • Relaxation and emotional well-being • Engaging yourself positively with your environment • Improving your self-image
